Soo Sunny Park (b. Seoul, Korea) - Unwoven Light at Rice University’s Rice Gallery in Houston, Texas. Composed of 37 individual sculptural units, the installation uses iridescent plexi-glass embedded in pieces of a chain link fence to cast shimmering, colorful reflections across the spacious gallery.

The Barbie Movie is the movie of all time for many reasons, but the core message being “Perfoming gender roles hurts everyone, you should be your authentic self no matter what society says” really knocked it out of the park
Why Hawaii needs a break from tourism — perspective from local resident palanichang on tiktok
[VD: Video answering a comment from Jamesy asking, “Help me understand how a break from tourism would help Hawaii?” Local resident talking in the car answers, “Sure thing, so many people know that the Hawaiian Islands are located in the very middle of the Pacific Ocean, what people don’t realize is because of our location and how small our islands are our natural resources are limited. Especially water. That is why we use these natural resources responsibly and respectfully. Now you take that and then you add tourism. When people come to visit our islands, they’re going to need resources as well, and as more people start visiting our islands, the more resources we use up. Take Maui for example: Back in 2016, I think Maui was going through a drought, so the city and county asked for the residents in Maui to preserve their water, use as much as possible. We’re talking about showers, talking about washing clothes, washing cars, feeding the animals. Now why would they ask that? That is because of the drought that’s going on, they had to divert majority of the stream water to hotels, resorts, attractions, heck, even golf courses. Which is why, when you add tourism to the mix, our resources are being used irresponsibly. That’s only going to go to those who are only visiting the islands. Also, people don’t realize is that tourism has never helped the native Hawaiian community. They only supported the corporations that brought tourism in. Another thing that people need to realize that tourism was brought over by the United States military, not native Hawaiians, and what they would do is take our culture, fantasize it, sexualize it, and make it attractive, so that people can come and visit. When, during the Kingdom of Hawaii days, we never needed tourism. It wasn’t a necessity. As a matter of fact, the economy during the Kingdom of Hawaii days was solid. It only got worse when American businessmen took over, known as the Republic of Hawaii back in 1898, and the strong economy that the Kingdom of Hawaii worked so hard to build crumbled. And that’s why tourism started. I know many people argue quote, ‘well you guys should have a bunch of goods. Ninety percent of your goods are always imported’ end quote. Why do you think that is? A lot of our farmlands and properties, they got closed down and sold to make room for more houses. But it’s also so that American businesses and corporations can thrive here. Especially shipping their goods. Which also leads to another problem: real estate. But I’ll cover that in another video. The harsh reality is, tourism has done a lot more harm than good here. Our people in Maui, they need our help. We need to focus our resources towards them not you. That’s why I said we need a break.” End VD]
it’ll never fail to amaze me that chessex, the game dice company - like if you bought your first dice set from a game store/comic shop/card shop you most certainly bought a chessex set - has such an ugly and poorly designed website. it looks like they went out of business 15 years ago.
i don’t know what’s better, the fact that they only sell five different things and felt like they needed a site map, the single uk location with the giant union jack, or simply the times new roman header which reads:
“The coolest dice on the planet.”
™
THEY HAVEN’T UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE IN TEN YEARS????
my mistake, literally every single page you click on has a different copyright date. so far I’ve seen 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and most recently 2012. amazing. well done chessex.
BUT LANA HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO ORDER DICE?????
you….you have to email them your order form. oh, gods. you…have to type your credit card information. into an email. so they can charge you seven dollars in shipping or 7% of the total order cost if it’s over $100. fuck. if you have questions about the cost of air shipping, you can fax them anytime. jesus christ. oh gods. fuck. fuck me up. chessex. the coolest dice on the planet.
™
this is another reason why I let my friendly local store make my chessex orders for me
Me: The Chessex website isn’t real and can’t hurt me:
The Barbie movie isn’t about girl power. It’s not about how women can do everything they set their mind to. It’s about how sometimes women are tired and average and that has to be okay too, because you don’t have to do everything to be worth anything. (And that this is also true of men.)
The Court Jester starring Danny Kaye, Basil Rathbone, and the amazing
Glynis Johns, and Angela Lansbury and it is all around a fun time.
All kidding aside, watch Basil Rathbone’s foot work. He knows fencing, and sets up the form even though he’s still playing up the stage blows for Danny Kaye to flail at for comedic effect.
Okay, but I need to talk about this because it’s even funnier if you know the context... Basil Rathbone was one of the greatest swordsmen in Hollywood history. Which is why he almost never won any of his onscreen fights–he was good enough that he knew how to effectively make the other guy look even better. That’s why the swordfight in The Adventures of Robin Hood looks so awesome even though Errol Flynn is nowhere near Rathbone’s level.
But this fight, right here? Was one of the only fights where he needed a stunt double. Because while he was able to keep Danny Kaye from being seriously injured, Rathbone himself nearly got skewered a few times by Kaye’s flailing around. So in a bizarre way, this is probably the closest to an even match Rathbone had in his career… just not for the reasons you’d expect.
“Don’t you know, there are some things that can beat smartness and foresight? Awkwardness and stupidity can. The best swordsman in the world doesn’t need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn’t do the thing he ought to.”
-Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (1889)
The origin of a saying I’ve seen quoted in various works of fiction - “The best swordsman does not fear the second best, he fears the worst since there’s no telling what that idiot is going to do.”
Sarah Jane Baker, the trans woman who was arrested for saying “punch terfs” at London Pride, is now on hunger strike and refusing all food and fluids until she is moved to a women’s prison.
Just so we’re clear, moving her to a women’s prison would be the bare fucking minimum the state could do. She shouldn’t be in prison at all, the police and parole board only changed their decision not to arrest her due to pressure from the Home Office. Once again, Suella Braverman is an overreaching authoritarian piece of shit.
